What To Do When Your Mind is Foggy
|
Here's a simple process for clearing the mind, no matter what it's filled with. - Stop everything and take 5, long slow deep breaths.
- Exhale as long and slow as you
inhale.
- Put all your attention on how the body feels while breathing.
- Feel the body respond: shoulders
rise, a sense of sinking.
- Think: Just Breathe.
- Think: What needs to be done right now?
- Allow the answer to come to you.
Tips for Ending Procrastination
|
Procrastination can have several
different root causes -- which one is yours? 1. You fear taking a risk, or trying something new. Insecurity about whether you'll
succeed or be good enough forms an obstacle to taking action. If
this is your issue, how or where can you seek confidence and courage for feeling the fear and breaking through it anyway?
2. You anticipate a negative outcome, whether
in results you won't like or in feedback or criticism that will be painful to hear. When this is your root cause, what are you telling yourself, and how are you reality testing
it?
3. You don't
have enough information or the right skills to move forward, and you haven't yet researched, or don't know where or
how to research what you need. In
this case, who can you ask or consult about where the information you need can be found?
4. You have a habit
of mental or spatial disorganization, let others interrupt your work time, haven't prioritized the thing you are procrastinating
about, or in other ways just haven't created the right conditions for getting and staying focused and productive.
If personal organization is your challenge,
what structures can you put in place to help you remember what you want to be committed to, or to keep bringing yourself back
to doing just one thing at a time?
5.
Your own inner spirit is not in alignment with the activity that's required to end procrastination. It may be the
wrong goal or be out of integrity with your ethics. Procrastination then becomes the spiritual warning signal not to
move forward. When this is happening,
how can you listen more deeply to the communications from your spirit, and trust your own inner guidance?
